Taylor Swift announced she is releasing her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” Oct. 3. The news of Swift’s album had many fans on edge for what else could be coming until she announced her engagement with Travis Kelce, fo

otball tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, on Instagram. Some fans wonder whether or not the relationship will last, while others believe that Swift’s marriage is a step into a new era of her music.

“I feel like now that she’s actually in her lover era and has a genuine lover, we might get some really interesting songs that fit that theme,” freshman Molly Barfield said.

Many fans look forward to her engagement, how it could impact her music and potentially shift the overall theme shared through it. However, some fans worry that with Swift’s new album her music could shift into a more secular theme like some of her recent albums with more explicit songs and lyrics. Despite these concerns, some students have hopes that it could bring upbeat lyrics and potentially change the way she writes her songs.

“I feel like her music will sort of calm down in terms of inappropriate content because there’s no more need for revenge or anger, so her music could be more positive and calm,” senior Lila Rose said.

Many students have stopped listening to her music because of the shift into a more sexual and explicit style of music seen in her recent albums such as “The Tortured Poets Department,” which was released over a year before the announcement of “The Life of a Showgirl.”

“I feel like in ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’ is when she first started using more frequent language in her songs, and I feel like her music became more sexual after ‘Midnights’ which is why I listen to less of her recent music and lean towards her older songs,” Rose said.

Due to her more recent secular albums, many fans would welcome a shift to an upbeat style of music like her older romance style. Some students have hopes that Swift could even return to her past values and morals seen in her early music.

“I feel like sometimes her songs aren’t as genuine as they used to be, like if you look back at her old concert videos you can really see her genuine love for singing,” Barfield said, “I think with the engagement we’ll get some upbeat romance songs, and I’m hoping there is no vulgar content like in some of her recent music.”
