Middle school science teacher at The King’s Academy, Mrs. Kim Pfaller, recently accepted the role as upper school principal. After being approached by Head of School, Mrs. Kristi Brannen, with the opportunity and prayerfully considering it with her family, Mrs. Pfaller began in January as Administration Associate, learning from other members of admin. In August, she transitioned to principal for the new school year. She still continues to teach science for sixth and seventh grade.
“I feel like I've always been sitting in the movie theater, watching the movie,” Mrs. Pfaller said. “Then, by joining administration, it was like going behind the scenes and on the set of the movie and seeing all the different components and how they come together.”
Although she has been a middle school teacher for 16 years, Mrs. Pfaller loves high school and is thrilled for the new opportunity. The mentors who poured into her during her high school experience were a significant part of making her the person she is today, and she hopes to do the same for the students at TKA.
“I loved my high school years; they were a big deal for me. I’m excited to just be part of a team to work with other people to make sure that you guys are getting that high school experience,” Mrs. Pfaller said.
Having the unique perspective of a teacher, Mrs. Pfaller steps into her role already having built relationships with students. She views her new position not just as leadership but as discipleship, shaping a deeper spiritual and relational connection between admin and students.
“I want the students to feel like I love and care for them and want them to have an amazing experience, but also that experience being just immersed with God and His Word, realizing that those things go together.”
To help prepare for the journey ahead, Mrs. Pfaller is working to earn her master’s degree in Education from Liberty University by February. She is currently managing curriculum, school supply orders, auxiliary days and adoption of new technology such as Clever. Mrs. Pfaller will take on more responsibilities as she adjusts to the position. Mrs. Pfaller has always looked up to the TKA leadership team and felt humbled and honored when offered the position.
“After praying and seeking wisdom from trusted people in my life, I had an incredible peace in my heart that this was where the Lord was leading me in the next season of my life,” Mrs. Pfaller said. “Honestly, I still pinch myself from time to time thinking about how the Lord gave me this opportunity.”
