After nearly 10 years of planning, the ribbon cutting ceremony for The King’s Academy’s new field is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9. Throughout these years, TKA families have raised money to help fund the school's big project. The construction of the new field provides a better place for students to participate in sports and for future families to watch their children grow mentally, physically and spiritually.

“I can’t wait to see our school families, and hopefully some of our alumni, come out to celebrate this special event,” Auxiliary Programs Director Mrs. Sandra Breaden said. “I’m especially looking forward to seeing the younger families come out and catch the vision of Knights Athletics and realize that their small children may one day be the football and soccer players, cheerleaders, band members, color guard, student athletic trainers, student photographers and more who will enjoy this facility long term.”

At the event, students, families and alumni will come together to the Hopewell property and walk down to the field together. They will be able to see the ribbon cutting ceremony and enjoy a performance by the color guard and cheerleaders. Even though the ribbon cutting is able to happen now, the event did face some complications, and several delays were made to the ribbon cutting.

“The biggest setback was the amount of rock that had to be removed in order to level the field area,” Academic Dean and Business Officer, Mrs. Jamey Wood said. “Digging and blasting the rock in order to remove it added two to three months to the project time frame.

Although seniors may miss out on having high school with the new athletic complex, at the ribbon cutting they will get to participate in family activities like food trucks, bouncy houses and tours of the new property. After it opens, when future students come through high school, they will have an opportunity to play on the same field that students, families and alumni helped work on for years.

“While I wish the field could have been completed sooner, I think freshman year is a great year to get it,” freshman Emery Steele said. “It’s fun I get to kick off high school with a brand-new field.”

Whether it is a current student, alumni or family member, the ribbon cutting will be a place for everyone to experience God’s goodness to TKA and to glorify Him.

“The ribbon cutting will be a celebration of God's provision, and a time of dedicating it to continue building God's kingdom,” Mrs. Wood said. “It will serve as a reminder for those that use it to promote godly character.”
