Senior Hailey Landrum committed to continue her athletic career at Covenant College for volleyball. After seven years of dedication to the sport, Landrum has reached a major milestone in her journey as a student athlete.

“I’ve wanted to play volleyball in college basically my whole life,” Landrum said. “Covenant was just the perfect place, and it was such an easy decision for me.”

Landrum has been playing volleyball since sixth grade. Her path to playing felt almost inevitable given her family background. Spending time around family members involved with the sport deepened her understanding of volleyball at a young age. Her inspiration came through her extended family who had a passion for the sport. They played for their own high school teams, and that love for the sport carried onto the next generation. What began as a household sport developed into a serious pursuit, leading to college’s interest.

“My older cousins and aunts played too, so everyone in my family has played,” said Landrum. “I was kind of destined to play volleyball.”

Throughout her time at The King’s Academy, volleyball has been a core part of Landrum’s high school experience. The Varsity volleyball team reached the final four this season in their deep playoff run, falling just short of a state championship. Through Landrum’s hard work and persistent training, she gained the opportunity to get noticed by colleges through the Covenant Volleyball Prospect Camp.

“The head coach came to some of my tournaments during club season and kept reaching out,” Landrum said. “After a couple of months of talking to them and a few other schools, I decided on Covenant.”

As Landrum looks ahead at her college career, she is highly anticipating her impact on the field, as well as student life off the court. During her visit, Landrum spent time with the girls on the volleyball team and got a firsthand experience of the campus.

“I don’t even know what I look forward to most,” Landrum said. “I’m excited about everything. The school is beautiful, the volleyball program is great, and when I stayed with the girls on the team, everyone was so nice. I’m just so excited about all of it.”

As Landrum prepares to take on the challenges in her volleyball future, it’s the memories of her teammates and TKA she will carry with her.

“Some of my favorite memories came from just being with my teammates, even during warmups,” Landrum said. “We’d goof off, but still play well, and it made the seasons so fun.”
