Even with so many post secondary options, a few 2021 graduates have chosen to use their talents and gifts to serve God in full time ministry.
Even with the constant pressure to make tough decisions, Joey Martindale presses in and listens to God’s voice throughout it all.
“The thing that has really made me want to go into ministry is the passage from John 21, where Jesus continually tells Peter to ‘feed His sheep,’” said Martindale. “Every time I read it I am reminded of the thing that Jesus specifically calls us to do, and that is to ‘feed his sheep.’”
Martindale said that he can see clearly what the Lord wants him to do in his life. He knows that he is called to be in ministry and obey his calling.
While some students want to go straight to college, others want to pursue a career immediately after high school. Martindale is planning on attending Lee University to prepare to enter ministry.
Martindale shares that he has wanted to go into ministry for three years but has only recently decided to go forward with it.
“I have really taken ownership of that calling and decided on it seriously this past year,” Martindale said.
Martindale recalls moments when he realized God's goodness while also understanding his own sin and unworthiness. “My relationship with Christ is so much more than a Sunday and Wednesday kind of relationship. It is one that I need every second of every day,” Martindale said.
Martindale plans to use his gifts to pursue the calling that God has for him to become a pastor. He wants to share the gospel with the hurting, the broken and everyone in need of God’s salvation.
People don’t always think of ministry as a career, but senior Sydney Roberts has put into perspective how she can use her gift of photography to serve the Lord. She wants to attend college to earn a degree in film for mission work. She can be a light for God by serving others and doing something she is passionate about.
Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” With all of the choices of what to do after graduating high school, going into ministry is a perfect way to use God given talents to work for him.
